Popular Tools' 8-inch stacked dado set with 24-tooth outside blades and 2-wing chippers — a lighter, value-oriented alternative to the DA840 with the same 13/16" maximum cut width. The 2-wing chipper design uses two carbide-tipped wings on a thin disk body for significantly reduced rotational mass compared to full-body 8-tooth chippers, while still producing flat-bottom dadoes in solid wood, plywood, and MDF.
What's included
- 2 × 8" outside blades — 24 teeth each, matched right-hand and left-hand pair, 20° positive hook
- Multiple 2-wing chippers for adjustable stack width up to 13/16"
- Shim set
- Wooden storage case
Why Popular Tools 2-wing chippers
2-wing chippers are an alternative to full-body 8-tooth chippers. Each chipper carries two opposing carbide wings on a slim disk body — same cut width per chipper, dramatically less rotational mass per piece. The result: faster arbor spin-up, less vibration, easier on the saw, and a lighter overall stack. Tip strength and cut quality remain industrial-grade.

Best for
General-purpose dado work on 8" table saws with 5/8" arbor where the cleanest possible 40-tooth shoulder finish isn't required. Cabinet dadoes, drawer-slide channels, shelf grooves, rabbets, and standard joinery in solid wood, plywood, and MDF. The lighter chipper stack is easier on lower-HP saws and reduces start-up draw.
Considering the 40-tooth set instead?
For furniture-grade joinery, finish-grade plywood, or melamine work where shoulder cleanliness matters most, our DA840 (8" 40T with full-body 8-tooth chippers, 5/8" bore) uses a finer tooth pattern and full-body chippers for the cleanest possible cuts.
Replacement chipper
The DA824 uses a specialty 2-wing chipper — see the CFP82250 (8" 1/4" kerf 2-wing chipper) for replacements. Standard 8-tooth full-body chippers (CFP8818, CFP88332, CFP88116) are not interchangeable with this set.

Compatibility
- Minimum 1-1/2 HP table saw with dado capability (1 HP often sufficient given the lighter chipper stack)
- 5/8" arbor
- ⚠ NOT compatible with SawStop table saws.
Setup & safety
- Outside saws always mount on the outside of the stack, chippers between them
- Never run chippers without both outside saws installed
- Confirm rotation direction on every piece before tightening
- Make a test cut in scrap to verify width before cutting workpieces
- Follow OSHA guidelines, wear eye protection, keep hands clear of rotating tools
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between this and the DA840?
Both are 8" dado sets that cut up to 13/16" wide. The DA840 uses 40-tooth outside blades and 8-tooth full-body chippers — the cleanest possible shoulder finish, ideal for furniture and melamine. The DA824 uses 24-tooth outside blades and 2-wing chippers — lighter, more economical, easier on the saw, and well-suited for general dado work where a furniture-grade finish isn't required.
Are 2-wing chippers as durable as full-body chippers?
Yes — the carbide tips carry the cutting load, not the body steel between them. The lighter body design reduces rotational mass without compromising tip strength or cut geometry.
Will this fit my SawStop?
No. This dado set is not compatible with SawStop table saws.
What's the widest cut?
13/16" with the full chipper stack — same as the DA840.
Can the blades be re-sharpened?
Yes. Standard carbide-tip sharpening at any local service.
